CCSO Lt. makes first appearance in court

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A judge denied bond to a lieutenant with the Chatham County Sheriff's Office.

Rick Hall is facing charges for aggravated child molestation.

Sheriff Al St. Lawrence says they received a tip last Thursday and that's when they began investigating. They got a search warrant and searched Hall's home on Wilmington Island and based on the evidence they found there, investigators arrested Hall on Friday night.

"We are just scratching the surface right now," said St. Lawrence. "He was assigned to court services and he's been here for 25 years."

Hall is now on the other side of the bars. He made his first appearance in court Monday, the same court where he used to work.

According to the sheriff's office, the only time Hall encountered children through his job was in 2007 when he supervised other deputies in Juvenile Court. That job lasted only for a couple months, and the sheriff's office says he didn't directly work with children.

Shortly after that, in 2008, the sheriff's office said they got a complaint about Hall, but there was not enough evidence to prosecute.

Then last week, another tip came in. They searched his home and found enough evidence to arrest him.

"Most of the time there is nothing to it and sometimes there is, like there was in this case," said Sheriff St Lawrence.

The sheriff says this case of molestation did not happen while Hall was working.

"As I understand it, off duty but when some of this stuff occurs, you find where it could have been on-duty," said Sheriff St Lawrence.

The sheriff's office would not release any details about how Hall knew his victim or if there are more victims.

Right now, they're just asking the public to call the Internal Affairs Division if you have any information that could help them in this case. (912) -665-9610
