Council approves rezoning for parts of Victory Manor Place

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Plans to expand the Victory Crossing Shopping Center across from Whole Foods are moving forward. City council approved two very important rezoning requestions Monday.

Both of these zoning requisitions were recommended for approval by the Metropolitan Planning Commission.

The developper has already purchased eight properties, and now they say this rezoning will help them expand and develop the shopping center.

City Council approved rezoning the eight properties from a single family residentional zone to a suburban commercial zone and to a highway business zone.

Part of the plan, however, is to include an entrance into the shopping center along Victory Manor Place, something that brought in a lot of oposition to the project because of the traffic and noise concerns.

"What I'm concerned about is it affecting the residents more so than the developers," said one resident at the meeting. "The developers at the end of the day, they go home. They don't have all this traffic. They're talking about a business that's already open 24 hours a day. You know you can hear all this stuff in the middle of the night."

This came right after the Whole Foods was put in right across the way. The mayor recommended that both the developper and the residents meet to discuss the points of disagreement.
