Red Cross helping victims during fire season

STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) -

Volunteers and staff members of the American Red Cross's Southeast Georgia Chapter have been busy thus far during what they consider "fire season".

"November to February is our busiest time. So far, we've had more than 100 fires and we've spent about $60,000 toward victim families," stated executive director Robin Wingate.

Wingate said many of the season's fires can be attributed to faulty heating devices, but some can be blamed on holiday decorations and overloaded outlets and extension cords.
