STANTON, TN -
(WMC-TV) - A 2-year-old girl nearly fell into a 6-feet-deep sinkhole Thursday night. Her pant leg became caught on a piece of concrete, perhaps preventing her from injury.
The little girl was following her mom to take the trash out when...
"I fell in the hole," said D'Myrah Williamson.
The hole is roughly two feet in circumference , but her family says it is big enough to swallow the 2-year-old. The Stanton, Tenn., family fears it will only get bigger.
"I'm up this morning, thanking God that I still got her in my arms," said D'Myrah's grandmother, Regina Williamson. "By being dark, we didn't know the hole was there and when she looked back and half of her was in the hole, holding on by her pants' leg."
The little girl has a few cuts and bruises, and she has been complaining of foot and ankle pain since the fall.
"She had on blue jeans with a cuff and the cuff part held on to the concrete and was holding her up from hitting the bottom of the ground," added Regina. "They need to fix this 'cause kids come out here and play all the time and it could have been much more tragic than what it was. Thank God she wasn't hurt badder than she was."
The hole was cordoned off after D'Myrah's fall.
"I'm not trying to press the issue, but something needs to be done before somebody really gets hurt," said Regina.
The property owner tells Action News 5 that Brownsville utility crews will be out to assess the problem and decide what needs to be done to fix it.
