Suspect arrested after police chase ends in crash

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A suspect has been taken into custody after a police chase that ended in a crash in Nashville Friday afternoon.

Police say 21-year-old Shawn Sullivan of Knoxville was wanted for robbing a convenience store in Lebanon.

Sullivan was later spotted by a Wilson County deputy, who followed him into Nashville.

The deputy says Sullivan started driving aggressively as he approached the I-40 exit for Donelson Pike.

That's when police say Sullivan got off the interstate onto Donelson Pike and slammed into a Toyota Prius near Royal Parkway.

Three people were inside the Prius, including a 66-year-old woman and her 9-year-old granddaughter. They were taken to Summit Medical Center with non-critical injuries.

Police say Sullivan got out of the car, ran over to a nearby Taco Bell and tried to carjack a 53-year-old man.

That's when police say he ran across the street to a Ruby Tuesday restaurant and tried to get inside but couldn't.

Police say they eventually found Sullivan underneath an SUV in the parking lot of a Walgreens with a semi-automatic pistol inside his pocket.

Officials say the black 2003 Nissan Altima was driving was stolen in Lexington, TN, on Dec. 19.

Sullivan has been taken to Wilson County and is expected to be charged for the robbery in Lebanon.

Additional charges are expected to be filed in Davidson County.

Sullivan is also wanted in Humboldt, TN, on armed robbery, assault and theft charges.
