JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson Police are investigating a shooting that left one person dead and another wounded. Police first responded to a car crash at Gallatin, near Amite Street Sunday.

Anthony Barnes, who was suffering from a gunshot wound, was a passenger in the vehicle that crash. He died later at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Police detained the driver, Johann Haley, and found that he had been involved in a shooting on Willow Street. Haley and Barnes fired several rounds, wounding Lenarther Bracey. Bracey reportedly returned fire, striking and killing Barnes.

Haley has been charged with aggravated assault and convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Additional charges are pending.

Bracey will be charged with convicted felon in possession of a firearm upon his release from the hospital. Additional charges are pending, but police say the homicide of Anthony Barnes appears to be justified.

That case will be forwarded to the District Attorney's office for grand jury review.
