Music City Bowl brings the Battle of the Bands, preps LP Field for the game

Before the players hit the field for the Music City Bowl, the first competition happened in the middle of Broadway, as bands from Ole Miss and Georgia Tech squared off for the Battle of the Bands.

"We wanted to mix the flavor of Music City with the collegiate spirit and enthusiasm that all the fans bring to town," said Scott Ramsey, president and chief executive officer of the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl.

Both bands marched in head to head Sunday evening to show off their best tunes and build excitement for their fans ahead of the game.

"Me and my brother both went to Ole Miss and graduated," said Mark Vaughters. "We're still season ticket holders even though we live 600 miles away. It's just something that's really true and dear to our hearts."

"We came here to support number 15, DeAndre Smelter," Christina Ransey said. "That's what we're here for, here with his mom and cousin and relatives. We always try to give our support our home team."

Monday's game is expected to bring out 50,000 to 55,000 fans to LP Field, which first has to undergo a full makeover overnight. This is the second time in bowl history crews have had a 24-hour turnaround to revamp the stadium from the Titans game to the bowl game.

"We'll have to turn the field fairly quickly," Ramsey said. "We really appreciate all the cooperation we get from the Titans and their staff as we turn the field from an NFL look to a collegiate look."

That means repainting three NFL and Titans logos on the field, painting new collegiate hash marks and covering every Titans sign in the stadium with Music City Bowl signage. This year, organizers decided to paint the end zones to represent each school. They've called in extra staff and brought in extra paint machines to get it done before the gates open at noon Monday.
