BULLOCH CO., GA (WTOC) -

An inmate at the Bulloch County Jail is being held in a security cell in connection with an escape attempt last week.

Deputies with the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office jail division on Dec. 25 discovered damage to the exterior of a window to one of the jail cells.

The inmates in that cell, including 23-year-old Tahjz Michael Irving, of Riverdale, GA, were removed from the cell by deputies and an investigation was launched about the cell damage. They discovered there was also damage done to the security fence surrounding the cellblock.

It was them processed as a crime scene and the case turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division.

Several inmates were interviewed and jail records were reviewed. Investigators determined that a second suspect had cut the fence and helped Irving in damaging the exterior cell window in an attempt to escape, according to the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office.

The cell window is designed to withstand damage and escape attempts.

A warrant was issued for Irving on charges of criminal attempt to commit escape. He is being held in that a security cell pending further judicial action.

The person who cut the security fence and helped Irving from outside the facility is being sought on criminal charges and that individual's identity is being withheld so it doesn't hinder that investigation, according to the sheriff's office.

Irving was arrested in October 2013 on warrants issued by Georgia Southern University Police charging him with burglary, kidnapping, simple battery and criminal trespass. No bond had been set for Irving at the time of his escape attempt.
