Woman charged with 40 counts of ID theft

The Bulloch County Sheriff's Office says a Statesboro woman bought several items on Amazon.com using someone else's bank account information.

The sheriff's office was notified on Dec. 19 that by a man who said his checking account had been compromised and used to make several purchases on Amazon.

A court order was obtained to get records from Amazon. Investigator Dusty Williams identified where the merchandise had been shipped, which was Foxridge Apartments in a male's name.

Deputies executed a search warrant on the apartment and seized several items that were bought using the stolen identity and bank information.

Shabrina Maybell Fields, 23, was taken into custody. She is charged with 40 counts of financial identity fraud, 37 counts of printing executing or negotiating fictitious checks, two counts of financial transaction card fraud, and one count of providing false statements and writings.

She is being held at the Bulloch County Jail without bond.

The apartment and man had been used as the shipping destination had also been a victim of Fields' identity theft, according to the sheriff's office.

Sheriff Lynn Anderson encourages consumers to monitor their bank and credit card activity and account details in order to detect identify theft early.
