SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Gordon and Tomochichi monuments in Wright Square will shine brighter Tuesday night.
This week crews with the City of Savannah are installing new lighting around the monuments.
The newly installed fixtures require less maintenance and are more energy efficient and durable.
Jerry Flemming, director for the City of Savannah Park and Tree Department, explained the new lighting will improve the monuments' appearance at night.
"What you'll notice is the monuments really come to life after hours," said Flemming. "There are some very unique architectural features in the middle point of the monument and at the top of the monument, so you will be able to see all of those features and shadows in the right places and actually enhance them. There are things that you can see at night that you can't see during the day just because of the use of light and shadows."
Work also began this week to replace the lighting in Troup and Chatham squares.
