Downtown Savannah was filled with New Year's Eve revelers as they prepared to ring in the new year and maybe even begin new traditions.
This is the first year the Savannah Waterfront Association had held an event on New Years, in addition to the fireworks. They had various bands playing on the stage, a preview to "Up the Cup," and before midnight they also projected a clock that counted down to the new year.
"We hope this becomes a fun event we can do every year; a Savannah tradition, and we are looking forward to upcoming years, and especially this year as we kick off this first ever event," said Leigh Anne Devito, Event Marketing Manager.
"It's exciting with friends and family. It makes it special because, like I said, my family is visiting and I've never experienced anything like this before. This is our first time for New Year's Eve down here, and I just told my boyfriend, I said, 'We are coming back next year, it's going to be a new tradition," said Michelle Colmone.
The fun continued at Rousakis Plaza, when, at midnight, the "To Go Cup" countdown sponsored by Wet Willies ended in a plastic to-go toast, and fireworks lit up the sky behind it.
