TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) -

Hundreds headed into the New Year feet first, right into the Atlantic Ocean.

The 14th annual Tybee Polar Plunge was held Wednesday morning. Though it was cold and rainy, that didn't stop people from participating.

Hundreds took the plunge and started New Year's Day in style with the Gang of Goofs parade and competition. People dressed up in creative costumes and paraded in front of judges up and down the pier.

Lots of creative costumes were on display, including Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, jail birds and even some Hawaiian dancers.

Don Ernest was the mastermind behind this fund-raiser that benefits the Tybee Historic Theater.

"Well, I think the plunge is symbolic of washing off the old year and getting a new start on a new year," said Ernst.
