Police: Guest House manager stole $2,000

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

People staying at the Guest House on Ogeechee Road say they were shocked to learn that the manager is in jail for stealing money from the hotel.

According to the police report, Janice Talley is accused of taking $2,000 from the Guest House.

"This lady is so nice. It never dawned on me that she had been taking money," said guest Donna Doe.

According to the report, the property owner called police to report the missing money. The report states that Talley admitted to taking $1,800 from the deposit back.

She said she used the money to pay her daughter's medical bills. According to Anderson, $2,000 was missing.

Doe and her neighbor, Rolanda Trueluck, said the money she took was their rent money, and they said the new manager and property owner told them and others that they'll be evicted if they don't repay their rent.

"I didn't even have money to buy my kids Christmas stuff so I don't have double money to be paying them," said Trueluck. "I don't know where [I'm going to] get the money from so me and my kids don't get thrown out ."

"I want someone to step up and say 'No, that's not right,'" said Doe.

However, they don't have proof that they ever paid. Neither of them got receipts.

"Nobody has gotten any receipts," said Trueluck.

An employee at the Guest House said Trueluck and Doe's claims are not true.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police is investigating claims that Talley stole rent money from residents.

WTOC was also able to confirm that Talley was arrested in 2009 for allegedly stealing from the Guest House on White Bluff Road.

Attempts to reach the property owner Robert Anderson on Thursday were left unreturned.

Meanwhile, Doe and Trueluck may still be homeless by Friday.

"I don't have no where to go," Trueluck said, "It's raining. I don't have nobody."

Talley may be facing more charges after the investigation is complete.
