Hubert Middle School is pioneering a brand-new program in the Chatham County school system: the Civil Air Patrol. Today, 15 students were sworn in. They will attend special camps, take aviation classes, go through drills and do community service projects.
Military personnel and local politicians were on hand to help kick off the program. Capt. Betty Morgan says the students are really getting excited.
"Everybody wants to be a cadet," she said. "I'm not sure if it's the uniform or if people are just catching on to the excitement, but all this interest, it's just fine."
The cadets will appear in their very first parade on Veterans Day.
