ECSO warns public of texting scam

Posted: Updated:
EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

A consumer alert has been issued after several people received scam text messages.

The Effingham County Sherriff's Office is receiving reports yet again that there is a text message being sent to cell phones telling you to call a number because your card has been locked due to fraud.

When people call the number, the voice on the other end says your prepaid Visa card has been deactivated and asks for bank account info.

The key in this situation is to not call the number. Officials say be careful and warn others who might not realize it's a scam. It's called a phishing scam. For more information, check here.
