SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A man has been charged in connection with a shooting Sunday afternoon that left a man in critical condition.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Dept.'s Central Precinct officers responded to the first block of Thackery Place on a report of shots fired, but were told a gunshot victim was taken to Memorial University Medical Center. Residents flagged town the officers to show them where the shooting happened.

Police said Eugene Mitchell, 23, of Savannah, was shot at about 2:17 p.m.

Island Precinct officers arrested 28-year-old Alfonso Warner. Police said officers stopped him as he was driving away in a Dodge Charger. He is charged with aggravated assault.

Police said Warner and Mitchell know each other and were involved in a confrontation when the shooting occurred. Violent Crimes detectives continue to investigate.
