Merchants at Savannah's River Street Market Place are taking no chances with the cold weather.
The market place on River Street's east end will be closed Tuesday. This is only the third time weather has forced the merchants to decide to close in recent years, according to store owner Amy Sheppeck.
The sub freezing temperatures tomorrow, and expected slow business, made it an easy call for the people down there who were using space heaters today.
"Tomorrow we are calling it our snow day. Due to the inclement weather, I don't think it's supposed to get above 30 degrees until 3 p.m., so we've decided to close and the owners decided instead of sending people to stand in the cold it would be more prudent to stay home," said Amy Sheppeck of Plantation Jewelry and Savannah History Shop.
The market place will re-open Wednesday morning.
