Savannah-Chatham Public Schools will have school on Tuesday, which means a chilly start for students waiting at the bus stop. First Student bus officials say they cranked more than 400 buses Monday to make sure everything runs smoothly.
Tuesday will be the first day back for students returning from winter break. First Student bus officials say the buses haven't just been sitting for two weeks; they are required to start all the buses three times over the holidays.
Officials say they had trouble starting some of the buses, but they will have those problems worked out by Tuesday morning.
All the buses have heaters and all the drivers have been trained to drive in icy conditions. Bus officials say they will have four on-call buses placed throughout the city in case anything happens.
"We are going to do the best that we can to make sure that we are on time, said Stephanie Cooper, Asst. Manager of First Student. "Unfortunately, unforeseen things may happen as far as maintenance goes, but we are going to do everything in our power to make sure the kids are at school in a timely manner."
