Man sentenced to 16 years in Goochland teacher beating case

GOOCHLAND, VA (WWBT) -

The man found guilty of beating a Goochland teacher will be sentenced to 16 years, according to the Commonwealth Attorney.

Uriah Harris is also sentenced to post-release supervision for 3 years.

The charges stem from an attack back in December 2012. Two other teachers actually had to jump in to save the victim. Police also found a six-inch blade beneath the victim's body.

During the trial, Harris defended himself in court and told jurors he still loved the woman he attacked. After his trial, Harris said he thought the verdict was unfair.

Harris has appealed the decision and is being held without bail.
