MPC approves Victory Crossings expansion project

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Planning Commission  approved plans to redesign a shabby shopping center along Victory Drive and re-route traffic.

The commission approved rezoning plans in December, but tabled the plans that included a new traffic entrance at Victory Manor Place.

The commission recommended developers conduct a traffic study because several neighbors who live on Victory Manor Place voiced their concerns about the possibility of more traffic cutting through their neighborhood.

After the study was complete, engineers recommended that creating an entrance via Victory Manor Place was necessary to accommodate truck traffic for deliveries.

Developers say this means the building that includes Baldinos Subs will be demolished and developers say they have no plans to relocated those businesses somewhere else in the center.

The MPC voted 11 to one in favor of a project that will give the shopping a center a facelift because the developers say the Whole Foods across the street has changed teh dynamics drastically.

"Along the way it's been a process, said attorney Harold Yellin. "We've gotten input from neighbors, from the MPC staff and from city engineering and so we feel like today's plan is a combination of everyone's input."

No word yet on what store will be going in at the center.
