Temperatures expected to climb in Georgia

Posted: Updated:

ATLANTA (AP) - Temperatures dropped to 17 degrees in Atlanta before dawn Wednesday but were expected to climb above freezing later in the day.

The slow warm-up expected across the state comes after two days of below-freezing temperatures in Georgia.

Lows early Wednesday morning ranged from 11 degrees in Rome to 30 degrees in Brunswick.

The cold weather continued posing problems ranging from frozen water pipes to water main breaks. In metro Atlanta, crews early Wednesday morning were trying to fix a water main break that sent water spraying an estimated five stories into the air near Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and Interstate 285.

The National Weather Service called for a high of 41 degrees in Atlanta on Wednesday as part of a warming trend that includes a projected high of 63 degrees in Atlanta on Saturday.
