Man charged with DUI again after chase

BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -

A Lowcountry man was arrested early Wednesday morning in connection with driving under the influence for a second time.

Beaufort police said Michael Lee Miller, 25, of Seabrook, was arrested after a short chase. He was charged with DUI second offense and failure to stop for blue light.

Police said and officer saw Miller speeding just after midnight on Boundary Street near Palmetto Street. He put his blue lights and siren on in an attempt to pull over Miller. Police said Miller speed up and tried to evade the officer. Miller then stopped his vehicle in the Beaufort Town Center and ran from it. Police said he stopped running, surrendered and administered sobriety tests.

He was arrested and taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center, where he submitted a breath sample for analysis. Police said Miller's blood-alcohol content was .18 percent, which is more than twice the legal limit of .08 percent.

Officers confirmed his statements that he had been convicted of a previous DUI charge. He is being held at the Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
