Posted: Updated:

According to Hinesville Police Dept. Chief of Detectives Maj. Thomas Cribbs, Elmone Bennett was shot at his apartment he shared with his girlfriend at the Pineland Square apartments on Pineland Avenue at approximately 8:30 p.m.

According to the girlfriend's report to police, she and Bennett had just returned from grocery shopping and were unloading their vehicle. She said she noticed a gray SUV several spaces away from their vehicle with occupants inside.

As she and Bennett were walking into their apartment, a black male wearing a dark hooded shirt and blue jeans with a bandana covering his face rushed in and pointed a gun in Bennett's face.

He demanded that Bennett get on the ground as two more men wearing hooded shirts and jeans entered the apartment and waved a gun in the woman's face and told her to quiet down.

Bennett began to struggle with the first gunman. He told police that he was pistol whipped, and police noticed he had been shot in the left collarbone area.

He was treated on the scene and then transported by ground to Memorial University Medical Center. His current condition is unknown at this time.

Bennett told police he did not know any of the men involved.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the Hinesville Police Dept. or call 911.
