Man sought in Bluffton after store robbery attempt

BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) -

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating an attempted robbery that occurred Wednesday afternoon at a Bluffton convenience store.

Deputies responded at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday to the Circle K at 1380 Fording Island Rd. on an attempted robbery report. A 59-year-old female clerk told deputies that a white male had run from the story and didn't take anything from the store.

The clerk said she had recognized the suspect because in had been in the store earlier that day. She told deputies that she believed he might be homeless and mentioned having no family and had asked for help. He returned to the store wearing a bandana that hid his face and kept his hands in his pockets, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

The suspect went up to the clerk at the cash register and immediately demanded cash. He did not shown any weapons. The clerk refused, telling him she had already deposited all the money into the store's safe. She continued to talk to the suspect for several minutes, trying to persuade him to get help. The suspect ran off, leaving the clerk unharmed. The suspect conveyed no threats during the incident.

The suspect was described as a white male between 18-20 years of age. He's about 5'9" and 130 lbs. He was wearing baggy jeans and a gray hoodie with blue sleeves. Anyone with information is asked to contact Investigator Cpl. J. Moran at 843.255.3422.
