GSU to name Fritz as next head football coach

STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) - Georgia Southern is close to naming a new head coach, the ninth in the modern era.

CBS affiliate KBTX in College Station, TX has confirmed what that Willie Fritz will be the successor to Jeff Monken as the head football coach of the Georgia Southern Eagles.

Fritz is leaving Sam Houston State University to head up the Eagle program. Fritz took over the Sam Houston State program in 2010 and went 6-5, but over the last three years the team has compiled a 34-10 record.

Sam Houston State won the Southland Conference in 2011 and 2012, and lost the FCS Championship game both years. They run a spread offense, but do run the option out of it, including a lot of the wildcat.
