Gunman wanted in Exxon shooting surrenders to police

GARDEN CITY, GA (WTOC) -

Sulaiman Toure, the man wanted for shooting another man outside of an Exxon gas station in Garden City, turned himself in to police just after 6:30 p.m. 

Groves High School and Mercer Middle School were put on a precautionary lockdown due to a shooting outside a gas station on Augusta Road.

The lockdown means that no one is allowed in or out of the school. As of 11:41 a.m. the lockdown at Mercer Middle was lifted and as of 12:37 p.m. the lockdown at Groves High School was lifted, according to SCCPSS spokesman Kurt Hetager.

Garden City Police Chief David Lyons told WTOC that a shooting occurred when two men were arguing.

Lyons said two men were standing outside the Exxon station at 4801 Augusta Rd. when one of them shot the other several times while he was standing in between gas pumps during the argument. The shooter left before police arrived. Police are searching for the gunman. Witnesses are being interviewed by police.

He said the black male who was shot is still alive and being transported to Memorial University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. He is in surgery.
