SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A big celebration was held Friday at Savannah's Combat Readiness Training Center.

The center's commander Lt. Col. Thomas "Gasket" Grabowski was officially promoted to the field rank of colonel at a ceremony. Georgia's Air National Guard commander Maj. Gen. Thomas Moore pinned the "full-bird" eagle insignia on Grabowski.

"It's a monumental day especially for me and my family, but more importantly, it's a monumental day for Team Savannah as we move forward with the joint base here at the Savannah airport and the future of the fifth generation fighting training here on the coast," Grabowski said.

Grabowski is a communications world guru and air-battle manager with 29 years of military experience. His tenure is marked with the full accreditation of the Cyber Training Center. He took over as commander in November.
