Tiffany Deal wants to carry on a cause that had become dear to her grandfather. She doesn't want it to stop, even after his death Jan. 2.

"It's sort of a comfort to me to keep doing this, even with him gone," she said.

Jesse Hinton, who served in the Air Force in the 1960's, delivered clothes and supplies to homeless vets in Savannah.

Deal organized her first collection drive for January 25, with ongoing collections and monthly deliveries after that. According to her research, one fourth of America's homeless have at least some service in the military.

Deal's initial drive will take place January 25 from 6-7:30pm at the Steak & Shake in Statesboro. The list of items needed includes:

Toilet paper
Tooth brushes
Tooth paste
Shampoo
Soap
Blankets
Sleeping bags 
Tarps
Camping gear
Shaving kits
Combs/brushes
Water jugs
Nonperishable foods
Coats

Underwear
