Marines from MALS-31 return from Afghanistan

BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) -

Forty-six Marines from the Marine Aircraft Logistics Squadron 31 returned home after a year deployment in Afghanistan.

It was an exciting way to end the work week for family and friends who have waited a year to reunite with these Marines.

"Excited, just ready for him to be come," said Simone Wright.

She and her two young kids were among Friday night's crowd of anxious people ready to reunite with their Marines.

This is the first time they've been away from SSgt. Robert Wright and they have much to celebrate.

"He just missed our anniversary. It was on Monday," she said.

For family members of Cpl. Robert Alan Davis, no distance was too great.

"We drove all the way from Minden, Louisiana which was 809 miles. It took about 15 hours and we're just so excited to see my son, her husband," said mother Leigh Davis.

Around 8:30pm, the plane carrying these 46 members of the Marine Aircraft Logistics Squadron 31 finally landed.

And soon the wait was finally over.

As they walked into the light, their family and friends ran out to meet them.

For many members of MALS-31, they now have a chance to spend the holidays together.

"We'll celebrate on our own, have a real Christmas here, so it'll be nice," said LCpl. Geoffrey Rogers.

"We're going to hang that tree right back up. I'm joking, I'm joking, I just got a new townhome and I haven't even seen it yet," said Cpl. Miguel Rivera.

Christmas or not, all agree it will be nice to just be together again.

"It's been real challenging but we made it, we did it and I'm so proud of him," said military wife Carri Haines.

MALS-31 provided aircraft, ordinance and maintenance support for Operation Enduring Freedom.
