SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The sky in Savannah was full of all kinds of colors on Sunday, making it a great time to fly a kite.

The Savannah Cricket Club held it's Second Annual Kite Festival at the L Scott Stell Park. Hundreds of people were estimated to have attended the festival. The origins of this particular festival come from a festival in India that is held about this time every year to celebrate a new season for the farmers. Organizers say it is a great way to celebrate a new season.

"It's about the kites. Who gets it the highest and who has better string that can cut other peoples' kites. People in India will go hundreds of miles travel to find the best kite and string to make it a competition to see who comes out better," said Andy Patel.

The event is usually held on the Sunday closest to the annual event in India, Jan 14.
