MILLINGTON, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A woman claims she was attacked by another woman in the parking lot of a Millington grocery store. Now, police have a warning for shoppers.

Millington Police Department is warning shoppers who may get approached by someone asking to borrow a cell phone not to fall for the scheme.

Dena Hamilton claims she was attacked in the Millington Kroger parking lot Saturday night. She told police she was loading groceries into her car when a woman approached her, said she had been involved in an accident, and needed to borrow a cell phone.

The suspect took Hamilton's cell phone, as well as thousands of dollars of cash and items from her purse and car.

"Look out for everybody, just everybody now," said Hamilton. "I never would have dreamed. I mean she had a small child with her ... When I saw the family in the car, I though why are these people doing this? I was just shocked."

Hamilton struggled to get her purse back and even chased the woman to a get-away car where there was a small child, a teenager, and a man driving. Police say the suspect in the robbery got into an older model black Honda Accord.

"If somebody needed to use my cell phone, I'd gladly give it to them because I wouldn't think anything about that," said Leigh Anne Barry, who shops at the same Kroger store.

Barry will probably now think twice about lending out her phone after hearing what happened at the very store she shops at over the weekend.

Kroger is cooperating with the police department's investigation and is providing surveillance video from the parking lot.
