A local church is reaching out to the homeless through their new Soup-er Bowl of Caring program.
The First Nazareth Missionary Baptist Church on W. 44th Street held a meeting Monday night to address, as a community, how the church could better help the homeless of Savannah.
During the bitter cold last week, when temperatures dropped in the teens overnight, the church opened an emergency shelter and many individuals donated food and money.
"All we want to do is help one person at a time," said Pastor Guy Hodge. "It can change the whole community, but if we have enough people supporting and enough volunteers, we should be able to get it done. "
People donated hundreds of cans of soup, and now the church wants to make sure the homeless community and anyone in needs gets the soup.
