SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Crews are at the scene of a single-vehicle wreck on I-516 in Savannah.

A red truck lost control and ran off the side of I-516 after getting off I-16 eastbound headed towards DeRenne Avenue early Tuesday morning. The truck ended up upside-down in the woods. One person was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Tow crews arrived at the scene and were not able to get the truck out of the wood line, so officials brought a large crane out to help lift the truck upright and remove it.

Two of the outside lanes of I-516 eastbound had to be shut down for a couple of hours , but the truck was removed and all lanes reopened around 8 a.m.

Traffic is still backed up on I-16 east and on I-516 due to the closure. Drivers are asked to seek an alternate route to avoid delays, which could be lengthy.

Police say a second crash occured on I-16 westbound, somewhere between I-516 and Chatham Pkwy, affecting traffic on I-516 westbound getting on to I-16 westbound. Few details are known at this time but rescue crews are at the scene and we will have more information as soon as it is available.

We will continue to monitor traffic conditions in the area. Check WTOC.com and WTOC on Facebook and Twitter for updates.
