WINSTON-SALEM, NC (WWBT) -

A former Virginia State University football player charged in an assault at Winston-Salem University is scheduled to be in a North Carolina courtroom Wednesday.

Lamont Britt, 19, has been charged with misdemeanor assault. Police said that Britt assaulted Winston-Salem quarterback Rudy Johnson, who had to be taken to the hospital. The fight caused the CIAA Championship game to be canceled, which ended VSU's postseason.

The fight happened in November in a bathroom during a banquet at WSSU.
