WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Wilmington's airport, ILM, will no longer offer non-stop flights to Washington, D.C.

Airport Executive Director, Jon Rosoborough, confirmed the flight being offered from ILM to Reagan National Airport will stop within the next six months.

The flight cancellation stems from the U.S. Airway, American Airline merger. Rosoborough says in place of the D.C. flight, a new, non-stop flight to New York will be added via American.

In total there will be three flights being offered to New York; two previously existing flights via Delta, and the new American flight. The new flight could start service as early as April.

Rosoborough says ILM is one of 18 airports losing the non-stop service. The airport received a notification of the cancellation around 4 p.m. Wednesday.
