Susan G. Komen is kicking this year's Race for the Cure campaign with a party.
Mayor Edna Jackson attended the event as the honorary race chair. This year's race will be held on April 12.
Race organizers are already encouraging people to sign up for the race. Last year the Coastal Empire had more than 5,000 people participate.
All of the money raised will stay in the area to support people fighting breast cancer.
"There is a woman who is a public health nurse in Liberty County who sat there and told me every time they have gotten a grant from us, they have diagnosed at least one woman with breast cancer who otherwise that wouldn't have happened," said Race for the Cure Chairman Ab Quillian. "So there is an incredible local impact."
