Livingston Parish couple dies in apparent murder-suicide

Denham Springs, La. - A mother and father of two children died last night in an apparent murder-suicide.

Marlon J. Reed Sr. and Aleria Cyrus Reed were found dead in he 28,000 block of Grand Turk Drive just after 7 p.m. According to Sheriff Jason Ard of the Livingston Parish Sheriff's office both apparently died of gunshot wounds.

According to police, Marlon and Aleria Reed were married, but currently separated. Marlon was staying in Denham Springs with the couple's two children while Aleria was staying with relatives in Baton Rouge. Police say Aleria was in Denham Springs visiting her children when the shooting occurred.

Police believe that Marlon shot his wife, then turned the gun on himself. According to the Ard, deputies had not been called to the couple's house before for an type of domestic-related issues. Aleria did have a Protective Order against her husband filed on claims that her husband had abused her.

Post exams are being conducted on the deceased under the direction of the Livingston Parish Coroner. 

Detectives are still actively working this case.
