SYLVANIA, GA (WTOC) -

There are new developments involving a lawsuit filed by the Ogeechee Riverkeeper against a company linked to a massive fish kill.

A federal judge has signed an order approving a settlement that requires King America Finishing to pay the Ogeechee Riverkeeper $2.5 million within 15 days to fund river protection efforts.

The Environmental Protection Division found that the company was discharging wastewater into the river from a fire retardant processing line without a permit in May of 2011.

An estimated 39,000 fish died as a result.
