Downtown traffic to be rerouted during MLK Parade

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Traffic in downtown Savannah will be rerouted on Monday for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade.

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police will close down streets and intersections for the parade, which will step off at 10 a.m. Roads along the staging area and parade route will remain closed throughout the parade's duration.   

Road closures around the staging area will start at 6:30 a.m. The staging area runs from East Broad Street to Price Street and Liberty Street to Gwinnett Street.

The parade will start at East Broad and Liberty streets. It will proceed north on East Broad to Broughton Street, west on Broughton to MLK Boulevard, and south on MLK to Anderson Street to disband.

No parking signs will be posted from 8-11 a.m. Sunday along Broughton and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Vehicles still there after 7 a.m. Monday will be towed at the owners expense.

Delivery vehicles with Bay Street destinations should take Interstate 516 at DeRenne Avenue to northbound Truman Parkway at President Street to access Bay Street.

Traffic will be affected by the parade street closures until about 3 p.m.
