Students at Jacob G. Smith got the chance to get up and show off their spelling skills on Friday.
The students started working on their list of words just three days ago. There were not a lot of time to prepare for the big event, but fourth-grader Miles Ralph pulled it off, winning with words trifle and permission.
He said preparing wasn't that difficult.
"I don't know. I just got my paper and I would have my mom call them out and I would spell them," Miles said.
Second place went to fourth-grader Polly Casteel and fifth-grader Nyla Hagan. WTOC's Sonny Dixon called the words for the competition.
