BRYAN CO., GA (WTOC) -

Richmond Hill High School parents are frustrated after they heard the news about a bomb and gun threat from their students who were inside the building.

"My son texted me and said there was this bomb threat," said parent Hitul Patel.

Parents were lined up across the street, anxiously waiting for the all clear and for some answers. Many of them learned about the threat from their students who were inside the school.

"I would rather have gotten the message from the school or text alert saying that the school was on lockdown," said parent Adrienne Kelley.

A message that the school sent eventually went out to parents about an hour after the lockdown started but according to the principal, the priority was safety first.

"There's a lot of information and decision making when we consider next steps when we receive a threat," said Principal Debi McNeal.

McNeal says this is also the reason why the school was not evacuated during the bomb threat.

"One hundred percent of the time, we consider the safety of our students and staff and at all times that was at the forefront," said McNeal.

She says they felt like this went as smooth as possible but they will evaluate how everything was handled.
