HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

The 22nd Annual Lowcountry Soup Challenge was held at the Westin Resort and Spa on Sunday.

Twenty chefs from different restaurants and other organizations on Hilton Head Island brought 20 gallons of soup each. The challenge was to make a soup with low calories and low fat content. All proceeds from the event went toward volunteers in medicine. The organization gave free medical and dental care to low-income families living on Daufuskie and Hilton Head Island.

"It is a really wonderful place to be if you are sick;  they get wonderful care, and everybody loves to be there," said Julie Copp, Director of Patient Care, Volunteers of Medicine.

Nearly 1,000 people participated in the event.
