Annual MLK Jr Day parade underway

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The 2014 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance Day Parade is underway in downtown Savannah.

Crowds have lined the streets to watch the parade which began at 10 a.m. There is a big change to this year's route that may affect your plans and where you choose to set up to watch the parade.

Officials have turned the route around this year. It will start at Liberty and East Broad streets and end at MLK and West Anderson. Parade organizers say the change is due to overcrowding of the former staging area.

Metro police began closing the roads at 6:30 a.m. The roads will remain closed Monday until the parade is over.
