SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The parents of a girl who passed away at age 9 are carrying on her memory.

Here's a quote from Alneata C. Kemp, Courtney mother on Facebook: "A couple weeks after her passing, I finally had enough strength to get out of bed. I was stirring around in our bedroom and found a bag full of socks! Outside of all living things, Courtney loved SOCKS."

They have since collected more than 4,000 pairs of socks. They have received donations from everywhere including primary and elementary schools, the Georgia Southern University biology department, churches, military members and more.

Socks for Courtney is a fund-raiser/Sock Drive in memory of Courtney Adavia Kemp who passed away on Aug. 19, 2012, from an undiagnosed heart disease.

For more information about the sock donation drive, call the Kemp family at 912.531.4404 or the Courtneys Socks Facebook page.
