SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Some newcomers in the Savannah Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday included the newly formed Savannah State Police Dept.'s Bike Patrol.

Three new officers now patrol campus, and they're excited to get the word out and they say what better way than to honor the life and legacy of Dr. King.

The bike patrol is part of the new chief of police's vision.

"Definitely focus and target our high crime areas and reducing the crime rate on the campes of Savannah State for our students and faculty to safer," said SSU Bike Unit Officer Shang Hopkins.

The Savannah State Bike Patrol is on Facebook and twitter, and Officer Hopkins said they hope to add more to his three unit team.
