Rescue crews responded to a bad single-vehicle wreck on Hwy 119 in Effingham County Tuesday morning.
It happened around 5:30 a.m. on Hwy 119 near the Steel Bridge just outside of Guyton. Officials say the driver was headed south on Hwy 119 when he lost control of the car and went off the road down an embankment, crashing into a wooded area and injuring the driver. Deputies say there were no other passengers in the vehicle.
Rescue crews and authorities from both Effingham and Chatham counties were called out to the scene along with LifeStar, who transported the driver to Memorial University Medical Center with serious injuries. However, officials say he is expected to survive.
The southbound lane on Hwy 119 near Honey Ridge Road was closed for several hours but reopened to traffic around 8:30 a.m.
