GA primary for state offices moves to May 20

ATLANTA (WTOC) -

Gov. Nathan Deal on Tuesday signed an elections bill into law that moves the Georgia primary elections for state offices from July to May 20.

The state office primaries will be held on the same date as the primary for federal offices, which was set by a federal judge.

The date for federal election was moved after a ruling that the state's runoff period must be at least 45 days must allow time for military ballots, according to the governor's office.

The primary runoff will occur July 22.
