SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Johnson tops Savannah High at Savannah State, evens series at one a piece

In a crucial region matchup, Johnson needed a big win to give Savannah High their first region loss and knot the series up at one a piece. Savannah High won the previous matchup in December, giving the Atom Smashers their only region loss of the season.

Jermain Williams took the rock and teed up at the top of the key for three to tie the game back up at 24.

The big man wasn't finished though as Hill tried again from long range. The ball rimmed out and Chris Cokley stormed the boards for the put back, again knotting the game at 26.

Still in the third quarter, Romone Robertson waited on the right side and took it to the hole for two. This was the turning point for Johnson as they broke the tie and started to pull ahead.

Adrian Bonds, the impact player of the game for the Atom Smashers, took the feed off the wing for the easy three.

Bonds was relentless as he drove into the paint for the easy finger roll.

He lit up for the Atom Smashers in the fourth, scoring three consecutive buckets to help Johnson extend their lead to 40-36.

A hard fought battle at Tiger Arena ended in Johnson's favor as the Atom Smashers win it 51-47, avenging an earlier loss to Savannah High, and also giving them their first region loss of the year.

New Hampstead defeats Beach

Over at Beach, the Bulldogs played host to the Phoenix of New Hampstead.

In the first quarter, Oronte' Anderson dished it off to D'juan Gaston who took it to the rim for the easy two as the Phoenix took the early lead.

Later, Anderson was making plays again as he fed Devante' Wright with the easy layup. Wright led the way for the Phoenix tonight with 21 points

New Hampsted went on to pick up the road win over Beach, 69-46.

Jenkins takes two in a row over Effingham County

Also in boys play tonight, Jenkins traveled to Effingham County.

Early on, Effingham County ran up and down the court as Deshaun Wilkenson bangs it off the glass for the bucket.

Then it's Mondre Green off the steal as the Rebels then work it down to Jakeenan Gant for the slam, but he went down hard with a severe ankle sprain.

There was no word on his injury, but he did not play the rest of the game.

Back came Jenkins as Brendan Carter drove in for two. He finished with 21 Tuesday night.

Then Jamelle Lanier went off the glass and Malik Benlevi worked inside as Jenkins takes it 93-77.

They are 2-0 over the Rebels this season as Quasean Harris led the way with 24 points.
