Teen brothers charged in 4 armed robberies in 2 months

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – An 18-year-old man and his 16-year-old brother were arrested Tuesday by Myrtle Beach Police and charged with several counts of armed robbery and attempted murder in connection with several incidents in December and January.

Kendrail Orlando Rankin, 18, was arrested Tuesday and charged with armed robbery, possession of a deadly weapon, and attempted murder for two robberies in December and one in January, according to Captain David Knipes with Myrtle Beach Police.

Rankin's 16-year-old brother, Fitzgerald Raysean McDuffie, was also arrested Tuesday and charged for armed robbery, possession of a deadly weapon, and attempted murder for two incidents in January, Knipes confirmed. McDuffie will be charged as an adult.

Two pizza delivery drivers robbed in December

On December 15, a pizza delivery driver reported to police that while making a delivery to a woman at an apartment on Cedar Street, two males pushed him inside the apartment and robbed him at gunpoint.

The men took his wallet, cell phone, cash, and delivery, and then ran out of the apartments to Third Avenue South. Rankin was charged for armed robbery in connection to this incident.

On December 18, another delivery driver reported being robbed at gunpoint. The victim was delivering two pizzas and cheese sticks to a home on Cedar Street when the suspect ran towards the victim and pointed a handgun at him, according to the report. The victim dropped the food and started to run back to the restaurant.

As he was running away, the victim heard four shots fired, and fell down, the report states. The victim was not hit by the shots, but did have a few cuts on his shin.

Rankin was charged with armed robbery for this incident.

Man shot and robbed near Maple Street

On January 7, police responded to a report of an armed robbery on Myrtle Street, near the intersection with Maple Street. The 58-year-old male victim told police he was in his yard when he turned and saw the suspect, later identified by police as McDuffie, pointing a small revolver at him, demanding money.

The victim refused, and the suspect fired a shot into the ground, the police report states. The victim threw $40 or $60 on the ground and began walking away. The suspect then said, "No, I want all of it."

After the victim refused twice, the suspect shot him in the lower leg. The victim tried to flag down a passing vehicle, and the suspect fled the scene on foot.

McDuffie has been charged with armed robbery and attempted murder in connection with this incident, Captain Knipes said.

Man shot and robbed outside Food Lion

On Sunday, January 12, Myrtle Beach Police responded to a reported shooting near the Food Lion off Highway 501 in Myrtle Beach, authorities confirmed.

Two victims were taking a shortcut through the woods to get home after leaving the Food Lion when two suspects "appeared out of nowhere," a victim told Myrtle Beach Police. The suspects robbed one victim and shot another as he attempted to get away, according to the MBPD report. The suspects then ran south on Cedar Street.

Emergency Medical Services responded any transported one victim to a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg.

The suspects in this case were later identified as Rankin and McDuffie, Capt. Knipes said. Rankin was charged with attempted murder in connection to this incident. McDuffie was charged with armed robbery.

Rankin and McDuffie were arrested Tuesday and booked into the Myrtle Beach Jail. Bond has not yet been set.

Rankin faces three charges of armed robbery, two charges of possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and one charge of attempted murder. McDuffie faces two armed robbery charges, two charges of possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and one charge of attempted murder. The 16-year-old will be tried as an adult, Knipes said.
