Southbound lanes of Hwy 21 reopen after fatal crash

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A fatal three-vehicle wreck shut down a portion of Hwy 21 in Chatham County Wednesday morning.

It happened around 6 a.m. on Hwy 21 southbound just before the Interstate 95 interchange. Three vehicles were involved.

GSP said a car that was traveling northbound on Hwy 21 crossed the median into the southbound lanes and crashed into two other vehicles. Officials have confirmed that one person has died and one person was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.  

All lanes of Hwy 21 southbound were closed at I-95 in front of the Bojangles' for close to 3-hours. All lanes reopened around 8:30 a.m.

The Georgia State Patrol has taken over the investigation into the cause of the crash.
